CIMvian Integration Modeling Tool
CIM adoption is on the rise, so energy and utility IT leaders should prepare. The Common Information Model (CIM) is an international standard used for the integration of IT systems within the electric utility industry. Activities have been aimed at creating common standards across energy domains, resulting in data models, common vocabulary and business processes.

Utility integration and application interoperability imperatives have driven an accelerated adoption of the CIM standard. UISOL recognized the market need for a CIM model management tool and, in keeping with its core mission to add value and momentum to the adoption of utility open integration standards, UISOL now offers its free to license CIMvian™ software to all utility market participants.
CIMvian™ simplifies and helps expand marketplace use of CIM (International Electrotechnical Commission TC 57 61970, 61968) and brings capabilities for utilities to visualize, analyze, and edit CIM RDF Schemas and CIM XML instance files in a user friendly graphical toolkit. Users benefit from the ability to visualize network models, manage multiple CIM instances and search their CIM databases.
Since UISOL introduced the tool in 2007, utilities and market participants of all sizes from 4 continents have licensed CIMvian™. UISOL expands CIMvian™ capabilities with regular releases based on inputs from its own extensive use of CIMvian™ at customer integration projects and from the inputs from a growing collaborative community of worldwide users.
The latest beta release of CIMvian™ features new capabilities to:
- Browse CIM models graphically
- Navigate CIM XML files by object lists organized by class
- Zoom and pan visual models
- Search and view object models and changes
- Browse and edit object properties
