Scott Coe, Vice President
With 15 years of experience in wholesale electricity markets, Scott Coe provides expert consulting services to refine evolving market design requirements and utilizes standards-based technologies to create effective solutions. Drawing on his extensive experience in power markets and focused on new innovations like demand response, Scott develops comprehensive strategies to maximize client efficiencies.
Scott leads UISOL’s Demand Response Integration Lab, an effort which brings together market operators, utilities, and technology providers in order to demonstrate end-to-end integration of demand response solutions using open interoperability standards. Participants in the lab focus on leading-edge concepts including “fast” DR and price-responsive demand which can only be enabled through an automation of the infrastructure.
Scott currently holds a board position at the North American Energy Standards Board. He earned a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics from Yale University and a B.S. in Engineering Physics from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.
REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
- Active participant in the development of demand response and price communication protocols in the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability program.
- Supported the North American ISOs and RTOs in the development of demand response measurement and verification standards at NAESB.
- Supported the North American ISOs and RTOs in the development of integration technology standards at CIGRE.
- Helped several market operators implement demand response management systems, including preparing market participants for new demand response market opportunities.
- Helped utilities retool their systems and processes to efficiency accommodate demand response programs and processes.
- Helped market operators implement advanced visualization software, data historians, and power-flow analysis tools to support energy management functions; enterprise project management tools to support efficient operations; and ITIL best practices and tools to improve IT service delivery.
