Power Marketing and Control Area Integration
Project Objective
Enabled a Federal West Coast Hydro-generator and Transmission Operator to become a Power Marketer and a Sub-Control Area to a Northern California Municipal Utility District.
Project Scope
Deployment of several new systems and their integration to support the operator’s Power Marketing 2004 project, using TIBCO EAI products. This project provided the functionality needed to execute the operator’s strategic plan to move out of the California ISO control area, terminate a schedule coordination agreement with a utility, and join the control area operated by the municipal utility.
The customer is one of the four DOE power administration agencies that deliver cost-based hydroelectric power within 15 central and western states and owns and operates the third largest transmission system in the country. Historically it operated as part of the California ISO control area. A separate utility provided power scheduling/merchant services under a contract.
UISOL performed this project in partnership with TIBCO Software. The project was successfully put in production on 12/31/04. We are currently engaged in a follow on phase of the project to help make the changes that are necessary for the operator to participate in the California ISO market (MRTU).
The platform was a combination of Windows 2000 servers and Sun Solaris systems, configured for reliability and scalability.
